The National Refurbishment Centre is a joint initiative between BRE and the Energy Saving Trust

The two organisations have a well-established history of working together, possessing complimentary skills and expertise. They both have a UK-wide delivery infrastructure and leading data and knowledge insight, with robust accreditation and performance monitoring protocols.

About BRE

The BRE Trust is a charitable organisation dedicated to advancing knowledge, innovation and communication in all aspects of the built environment. It’s subsidiary, the BRE Group is an independent and impartial, research-based consultancy, testing and training organisation.

BRE helps clients create better, safer and more sustainable products, buildings, communities and businesses – and supports the innovation needed to achieve this. Refurbishment is a critical area of research and BRE tests the energy-performance of materials for a number demonstration projects, including the Victorian Terrace. Through BREEAM, BRE has also begun creating a refurbishment standards for both domestic and non-domestic buildings.

About the Energy Saving Trust

The Energy Saving Trust, funded by the UK government, devolved governments and the private sector, is the UK's leading impartial organisation helping people to save energy and reduce carbon emissions.

The Energy Saving Trust works with hundreds of organisations and groups in the public and private sectors, providing insight and support to enable them to deliver energy-saving initiatives for consumers across the UK. It is involved in a number of demonstration projects, including Retrofit for the Future and has supported local councils to provide low-carbon improvements to 3,000 social homes in Oldham, Stockport, Tameside and Manchester.

Sector partners

The National Refurbishment Centre is a highly collaborative initiative, with partners from across the refurbishment sector, including suppliers; deliverers and main contractors; local authorities, housing associations and other organisations; and clients.

National Refurbishment Centre partners make up the task groups that are currently developing a clear roadmap  for the delivery of refurbishment on a national scale.
